Portray Professionalism

Posted by aonenetworks On July 26, 2013

Businessman silhouetteThe term professional is used frequently and has become a standard expectation, but the implied meaning and true meaning have become blurred. To examine the root of the original intent, we can gain a better understanding.

A professional is an expert within a specific field of knowledge. By definition, they portray excellent skills related to that profession. In addition, they exhibit a high standard of professional ethics, behavior, and work activities. Therefor professionals display professionalism.

This excellence of professionalism can be a practiced set of skills and choices.

Knowledgeable – Become a master in your industry and an expert with specialized knowledge. Including excellent manual, practical, and literary skills related to the profession. The status of “expert” is on-going, and continually shifting with the needs of the industry. Stay in close contact with new and old information, keep reading, learning, and predicting where the market may go.

Focused -A profession is a permanent career, not a pastime. Even those who choose to turn their hobby into a business will become a professional, for example, a professional golfer. Maintain a focused direction and a high standard for quality work in creations, presentations, research, enterprise, services, products, and all things related to your business.

Ethical and moral conduct – As the expert, you are asking others to place a great deal of trust with you. Honor that trust and be rigorous in your behavior at work. You will often owe a higher duty to your customers and will likely share a privilege of confidentiality. Keep in mind that you may be required to put the interest of the client ahead of your own.

Motivation – Hold an ongoing interest in your field of expertise. If you are a captive audience to your profession, it will automatically draw others in, as well.

Morale – Maintain a positive attitude toward the profession. Make your eager and enthusiastic attitude contagious to everyone around you; coworkers and customers.

Relationship builder – Maintain appropriate treatment of your colleagues. A professional would give consideration to the elderly and inexperienced colleagues, as well as those with special needs. Set an example to perpetuate the attitude of your business.

Professionals, as opposed to a master of a trade, exude both knowledge of the field of study and foster a certain behavior and attitude. A professional is someone whose philosophy and habits have been conditioned, by self-study or apprenticeship. In our society, the habits of a profession and the portrayal of professionalism are often shifted to match the culture where we work. Conduct your own assessment to see how your business is doing, and what areas could be improved.

Emanating professionalism lends a sense of confidence to your business, and consumer confidence is critical for business growth and development.
